Lots of News!

We've made it through a long short week... For only being four days, it seems like the kids were extra tired today! We must have been working hard this week. You can read more about that below in Rachel's update.

Our pajama day has been postponed until next Friday (the 31st). I had not taken EEE in consideration when scheduling it the first time. My mistake!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! Please help your child decorate a box for receiving Valentines. If you need a box, let me know. I have lots of shoeboxes and Scholastic boxes for sharing! Your child can be as creative as they would like for their box. This was always one of my favorite parts of Valentine's Day when I was a kid. We will exchange Valentines on February 13th as the 14th is a teacher work day. We have 24 kids in our class if you are an early bird planner and want to get started. I will send home a list of names with students in next week's Friday Folders.

Wednesday the 29th is an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 12:50. Our lunch and recess time will be earlier in the day to accomodate the early dismissal, and we will still have specials.

Next week's Specials:
Monday: Music
Tuesday: PE
Wednesday: Counselor and Library Checkout
Thursday: Art
Friday: Music

Hi I’m Rachel and I’m going to tell you about what Ms. Baxter’s class did this week

Cocoa Night

At cocoa night we had a sheet that we picked up at the door. It had a list of things that you could do. You could do some of them, all of them, you didn’t have to do any of them. Then you could get hot cocoa. It was steaming hot.

Writing

In writing this week are class worked on our informational writing. We could write an article or write a book. If you finished your work you could hang it up for cocoa night. We also did hand writing. We are working on cursive.

Reading

In reading we are working on reading group book. There are five different groups. Each group will read a few chapters then respond. The groups meet and share what they wrote. We also did some read to self and read to partner. We have to respond every day. We had read aloud this week. The title is called HOLES. It’s about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. It’s his first name spelled backwards for his last name. Holes is about Stanley going to a camp that he’s thinks it’s going to be fun but he was wrong.

Math

In math this week we did some time tests. We started x12s and x11s. Check this out 56=7x8 [neat pattern]We did some papers to get are brains ready for math. We have been doing a little division. We had a big hundreds club. We learned a new kind of property it is the distributive property.

Other Fun

We have brain breaks. We did some dancing, some breathing, and some stretching. We did a Martin Luther King Junior passage. We also did a word search. In specials we had music, P.E., Art, and library. In music we sang some songs, in P.E. we did Folk dancing, in art we did abstract art, and in library we checked out books.

Sincerely,

 Rachel
