Man, has it been a busy week! For our first full week back to school after break, we did a pretty good job. We had Student Council elections on Wednesday (Congratulations Joan and James!), timed multiplication tests (check out our twitter for pics of our daily 100s club members!), grade level lunch in the hallway, and we even had a guest reader from our Partner in Education (Columbia Insurance Group). In class we practiced division, worked on our informational writing on the laptops (and learning how to add clip art and using other fun tools in Microsoft Word), learned about Martin Luther King, JR., and we even remembered to do our cursive. It's been busy!
As a parent, you will begin to see more math homework coming home occasionally. While I still strongly believe that the classroom discussions and work are by far the more enriching learning experience and that kids should have time at home to be kids, be involved in extra-curriculars, and spend time with family, the truth is that fourth grade will bring homework. I don't want fourth grade to be a shock. And as sad as it makes me, these kids are closer to being fourth graders than they are second graders. Our year is already about half over. :( A page or two of math homework a week may help ease that transition. It would be a diservice to them to not fully prepare them for the realities of fourth grade to the best of my ability. You should be proud of your kids for the mature, responsible kids they are and are becoming.
Just some example of how responsible these kids are: this week I had a couple kids take the initiative to ASK ME for extra multiplication practice when they struggled on the timed test. The kids put their own papers in their Friday Folders every week. They help to keep our classroom clean and safe each day by stacking the chairs, shaking out our carpet, and picking up the floor. Each day, I am amazed and taken aback by how wonderfully amazing my class is.
Specials Next Week:
Monday - NO SCHOOL!
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - PE
Thursday - Library Check Out/ Media
Friday - Art
The kids earned a cougar compliment celebration before break. We discussed having a pajama day but just didn't have time before break. It's time to make good on that promise of a pajama day! Thursday next week (the 23rd) will be our pajama day!
